Within the framework of the International Youth Day on August 12, the Social Development Center (Nama) organised a number of youth-centered training courses under this year’s theme ‘Transforming Education’.
The initiative was in cooperation with the Barzan Girls Center and the Barzan Youth Center, and included workshops and training courses that shed light on the importance of education, international best practices and challenges facing young people in the field of education.
The workshops led by Nama trainers were examples of Nama’s continuous efforts to provide safe spaces for young people, discover their creative abilities and provide them with the necessary support in various fields.
Hamad al Marri, acting manager of Communication and Media office at Nama Center, said, “In line with the theme ‘Transforming Education’ adopted by the UN, the Center is attaching great importance to training programmes and workshops offered by the centre to the youth in accordance with the Qatar National Vision 2030.”
In this context, Marri underlined the centre’s achievements with respect to developing the capacities of young people and capitalising on their abilities. He noted that the centre has been contributing to the empowerment of young people in Qatar since 2017, in line with the aspirations of the country and its wise leadership, through a number of programmes designed to equip the youth to lead the development process. During this period, the centre has launched a distinctive set of programmes, activities and initiatives, which have had widely and positively influenced the community, he said.
The list of programmes, activities and campaigns organised by the centre in the framework of the significant role it plays in empowering and developing young people included: The “Reyada” Award, which recently launched its fifth edition, targeting Qatari entrepreneurs owners of small and micro enterprises; and the ‘Sama Nama’ programme for the development of social entrepreneurs, which is celebrating the graduation of its third cohort next December. The ‘Sama Nama’ programme aims to develop the abilities of young people and invest their energies through a variety of activities that have been carefully chosen to suit their needs and motivate them to compete positively.
In 1996 Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser established the Nama Center with the aim of providing a stimulating environment that unlocks the potential and underlying creativity and innovation of the young people, and meeting their needs and aspirations as partners in civic work, while exploring the best opportunities to innovate and to lead the renaissance of their communities.
Since 2013, the centre has been working under the umbrella of Qatar Foundation for Social Work (QFSW). Nama is also a member of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
