DOHA
FILIPINO expats in Qatar took advantage of the Eid Al Adha holidays to bond with families and friends and explore different destinations across the country.
Many of them were seen visiting some of the popular destinations in the city, which are hotspots during the holidays, such as Katara Cultural Village, Souq Waqif and Souq al Wakrah. But, many others opted to venture outside the capital and enjoy the refreshing sights despite the scorching heat.
Filipino community group Philippine Guardians Brotherhood Inc (PGBI), Expats Chapter, gathered its members for a clean-up drive at Al Ruwais Beach. The activity led by Ian Baldesco of PGBI Expats Chapter Doha was also held to welcome the batch 2 of new members of the group and to celebrate Eid al Adha.
According to Baldesco, a total of 40 Guardians members took part in the activity. It includes 12 members from batch 1, 10 from batch 2 and 18 founding members.
“The chapter was established on November 02, 2018 and was officially recognised by its national headquarters in Manila on April 19, 2019. PGBI-Expats chapter is actively participating in Filipino community activities as members of Bayanihan Qatar. Aside from welcoming the new members from batch 2, the event was followed by a cleanup activity along the shorelines of Al Ruwais as part of our Eid al Adha celebrations and environmental preservation responsibility”, said Baldesco.
Some other groups of Filipinos headed to Sealine Beach to enjoy the famous dunes and the blue waters of the area as well as other recreational activities.
Risa, an expat, said, “It has been a tradition in our family to head to Sealine during Eid holidays. We love the fantastic dunes. It is an ideal site for camping or picnic. Despite the heat, it is still refreshing to be out there and appreciate nature.”
Other popular destinations outside Doha for many Filipinos during Eid holidays are Dukhan, Al Ghariya and Al Wakra.
