THE management, staff and students of Birla Public School (BPS) gathered recently to mourn the death of BK Birla, the founder of the institution and a noted industrialist and philanthropist.
Birla had authored several books, including an autobiography titled ‘Swanthah Sukhaya’, in which he recounted his experience of growing up in the pre-Independence era in India, and especially the time he spent with Mahatma Gandhi.
BK Birla was the chairman of various charity trusts which run engineering colleges and schools. He established Birla Public School, Doha, in 2004.
Gope Shahani, vice chairman of BPS, paid his tribute to the departed soul and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family. BPS Director Dr Mohan Thomas also paid his homage to late BK Birla and remembered him for his support to the school.
BK Birla had visited the school several times in spite of his old age.
C V Rappai, director of Birla Public School, offered prayers for the departed soul along with the school community and urged everyone to continue to strive for fulfilling the educational mission and vision of the late founder.
A P Sharma, principal of Birla Public School, led the assembly summing up the great services the late BK Birla had rendered to the community in the field of education for over about half a century in India. (TNN)
