THOUSANDS of expatriates from different Asian communities attended the ‘Mega Eid Al-Adha Cultural and Infotainment Celebration for Expat Communities organised by the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Interior at Asian Town and Labour City in Doha Industrial Area on the first day of Eid Al-Adha on Sunday.
The celebrations at Asian Town and Labour city featured many traditional cultural shows and performances by groups of artistes from the Indian Cultural Center (ICC) representing different states of India, who were accompanied by an Indian orchestra team.
On the sidelines of the colourful musical show, the different departments of the Ministry of Interior, including, Traffic Department, Al Fazaa Police, Community Policing Department, Civil Defence, Drugs Enforcement Department, and Human Rights Department held events to raise awareness of the audience on road and fire safety, pedestrian safety and drug prevention law.
The events also sought to raise expatriate workers’ awareness of the services rendered by the Human Rights Department, Community Policing Department, Search and Follow Up Department and Visa Support Services Department.
Besides, the organisers held a magic show and conducted raffle draw for the audience with the prizes sponsored by the Safari group and the
Grand Mall.
The musical shows were held in different languages namely, Hindi, Urdu, Sinhalese, Nepali, Malayalam, Tamil and Bangla. The programme held from 5pm to 10pmenthralled the audience including Indian, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Nepalese and Pakistani expatriates.
On behalf of Brig Abdullah Khalifaal Muftah, director of Public Relations Department, Capt Salihal Marri felicitated the sponsors of the event and extended Eid greetings to the audience, the sponsors and the community leaders. They also thanked the attendees for their presence and support for the event.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Interior Lt. Hamad Ali Jahweelal Marri said that the ministry is keen to organise such programmes at various locations of Qatar in order to reach out to people, enhance cooperation between the ministry and the expatriate communities, as well as to provide safety tips to them.
Ministry of Interior has been organising cultural events and awareness programmes for the expatriate communities on various national occasions such as Eid Al-Fitr, Eid Al-Adha and Qatar National Day for several years.
This year’s Eid Al-Adha celebration was organised in collaboration with Indian Cultural Center and is sponsored by Ibn Ajyan projects, Naaas Group, Safari Mall, Grand Mall, Trsnscind Group and Emco Qatar.
