Dr M Evren Tok, Assistant Dean of Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Islamic Studies (CIS), recently led a session on sustainable learning of children and teenagers at an art studio in Kocaeli, Turkey.
During his time at the Atelier Fazilet art studio, Dr Evren Tok delivered a session focused on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), where he showcased Qatar’s efforts to support the goals at a global level.
The session was facilitated by Turkish artist Fazilet Erdem, who organised a series of workshops in tandem with Darica Municipality Public Education Center. Several local artists, teachers and experts joined Erdem in hosting various capacity building, awareness, educational and recreational activities for participants aged between 6 and 18 years.
The sessions underscored the importance of SDGs and the urgent need for youth involvement and awareness in addressing global challenges. The event showcased the way CIS and its academic programmes, such as Islam and Global Affairs, aim to integrate academic Islamic grounding with contemporary social sciences.
CIS will be organising “Maker Majlis: Islam in a Global World” from September 22 to 25 with the participation of 22 local and international entities, fusing SDGs, the Qatar National Vision 2030 and Islam.
