THE Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced partial closure of Umm Swayya Roundabout from Saturday (October 19) for seven months.
The closure to be implemented in coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic is needed to carry out upgrade of the Umm Al Swayya Roundabout, located on the road linking Al Khor and Al Shamal road, into a signal-controlled intersection.
Ashghal said that the new intersection will see an increase in the number of lanes to three in each direction, which will improve traffic flow on the road connecting Al Khor and Al Shamalroads.
The intersection will also facilitate the arrival of those coming from Ras Al Noof Interchange on Al Khor Road and heading towards RasLaffan, especially after the recently opened Ras Al Noof intersection.
During the traffic change, one of two lanes will be closed in all directions to Umm Swayya Roundabout.
Ashghal has urged commuters coming from Al Shamal Road and heading towards Ras Laffan to use Umm Esmaira Interchange at exit 38 instead of Al Khor Interchange exit 35 on Al Shamal road to avoid traffic congestion on Umm Swayya R/A .
Road users coming from Al Khor Road and heading to Ras Laffan are advised to use Ras Al Noof I/C to reach Umm Swayya R/A then RasLaffan.
The Public Works Authority will install road signs advising motorists of the traffic shift and requests all road users to abide by the speed limit which remains at 80 kph along the route, and follow the road signs to ensure their safety.
