The General Authority of Customs (GAC) and Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) Authority have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to combat money laundering, predicate crimes and the financing of terrorism, in Doha on Wednesday.
The MoU was signed by GAC Chairman Ahmed bin Abdullah al Jamal, and QFC CEO Yousuf Mohamed al Jaida.
The MoU calls for the exchange of information regarding the fight against money laundering and terrorism financing and the need to implement international conventions in this regard, in addition to achieving the goals and strategies of the national cooperation and coordination between national authorities in the field of combating money laundering and financing of terrorism.
The MoU also calls for the cooperation of the two sides in the implementation of training courses for human resources of both parties in order to strengthen their efforts in the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism to achieve the desired benefit.
Ahmed said the signing of such important MoUs comes within the framework of the Authority’s endeavor to provide all means of security and safety inside the country, through the customs points, stressing that the MoU is aimed at combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism and all associated financial crimes.
Jaida said the cooperation reinforces the efforts of the two sides to enhance knowledge of ways of combating money laundering crimes, financing terrorism and spreading it widely.
“It is also considered as an extension of QFC Authority’s efforts in taking the necessary measures to combat any suspicions in general in coordination with the competent authorities and in implementation of the recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), and to achieve the objectives and strategies of the national cooperation and coordination between the national authorities in the field of combating money laundering and terrorism financing.”
